When to observe them?
The distribution of ibex varies throughout the year. In summer, they often move to higher elevations. In winter and spring, they may frequent lower, more exposed slopes. Rutting occurs in early winter, but you should never provoke an approach or disturb their behavior.
Tips for photographing them respectfully
- Use a telephoto lens: it allows you to compose without reducing the distance to the animal.
- Observe before moving: if the animal stops feeding, stares at the photographer for a long time, or moves away, increase your distance.
- Never feed or attract: habituation puts animals and visitors at risk.
- Do not cut off a path: always leave an escape route towards rocks or the group.
