Large-format backlit photo display in Chamonix – my turnkey project for a property developer
Professional Project • Chamonix • LED Lightbox
For this real estate project located in Chamonix, I was asked to provide a photograph of the Mont Blanc massif for two large lightboxes installed in the residence's garage.
My involvement included image selection, adapting it to the project's dimensions, and preparing the high-definition print-ready file. The lightboxes' manufacturing, printing, and installation were then handled by the client's chosen provider.
A Mont Blanc photograph to transform a circulation area
The client wanted to give a strong visual identity to a space that is usually undervalued. The goal was not simply to add a decorative image, but to create a real landmark in the residence's garage.
We selected a photograph of Mont Blanc at sunset from the Lacs des Chéserys. The warm light on the peaks, the reflections in the lake, and the panoramic composition were particularly well-suited for a large-format backlit display.
This photograph is also available in the gallery as the print Mont Blanc at sunset from the Lacs des Chéserys .
My involvement in the project
The creation of the lightboxes was not part of my service. My role was to prepare the image so that it could be properly used by the manufacturer chosen by the client.
- Photography selection. We looked for an instantly identifiable landscape, consistent with Chamonix, and sufficiently legible in a transit area.
- Adaptation to the final format. The framing was adjusted to the proportions of the two lightboxes to preserve the main peaks, reflections, and the overall balance of the image.
- High-definition file preparation. The file was checked and exported according to the dimensions, resolution, and technical constraints communicated by the provider.
- Validation before manufacturing. Discussions with the client and their team confirmed the final framing before sending the file for production.
Preparing a photograph for a lightbox
An image intended for a lightbox is not prepared exactly like a photograph printed on aluminum Dibond. Backlighting changes the perception of brightness, colors, and contrasts.
Several elements must be anticipated, including:
- The exact dimensions and proportions of the printed surface.
- The file definition, which must remain sufficient for the final format and typical viewing distance.
- The framing, to prevent a peak or important element from being cut by the lightbox frame.
- The brightness and contrasts, which must remain balanced once the image is backlit.
- Manufacturer's specifications: type of canvas or translucent material, color profile, and requested file format.
A realization manufactured and installed by the client's provider
The structures, LED systems, prints, and installation were entirely carried out by the real estate developer's provider. AluArtMountains was therefore not involved in the physical manufacturing of the lightboxes.
This distinction is important: I can provide a licensed photograph, prepare the file, and support technical exchanges, but the choice of manufacturer and the conformity of the installation remain the responsibility of the client and their provider.
The terms of professional use of photographs are detailed on the licensing and professional projects page.
