About this image

A waterfall descends the high cliffs of the Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval, forming a clear line through the rock and vegetation. The water appears delicate against the immensity of the rock face, immediately emphasizing the scale of the landscape. Green forest occupies the foreground at the foot of the immense layered wall. Higher up, grassy areas follow the ledges and interrupt the limestone beside the slender waterfall. This arrangement reveals the different levels of the terrain, with the water acting as a vertical link between the rocky bands and the vegetated surfaces.

The vertical framing follows the fall and highlights the contrast between the movement of the water and the stability of the limestone. Vegetated areas provide shades of green, while the shadows of the cliff allow the white stream to remain perfectly legible.

The photograph was taken in Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, in the Giffre Massif in Haute-Savoie. The waterfalls of the cirque multiply in spring due to snowmelt. This waterfall forms part of the vast Giffre landscape, between rock faces and vegetation.

This photo print of a waterfall in the Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval is custom-made on matte Dibond aluminium. The print preserves the delicacy of the water and the textures of the rock face.
