Facing the ocean, the great arch of Dyrhólaey cuts a deep opening into the volcanic cliff. This framing brings the eye closer to the rocky mass, revealing the dark walls, the irregularities of the basalt, and the foam that forms at its base. The cape stands about 120 meters high on the south coast of Iceland, not far from Vík and Reynisfjara. Marine erosion has shaped this arch, which has become the main landmark of the promontory and one of the great natural formations of this coastline. The composition emphasizes verticality and the contrast between the arch's opening and the rock's density. The ocean remains very present, but it primarily serves to give scale to the natural monument and to animate the lowest areas of the frame.
