About this image
The Clarée river meanders between rocks and golden larches, creating a clear line through the autumn landscape. The current enlivens the foreground, while the trees and the terrain of the Cerces massif gradually frame the valley. The torrent forms small cascades between the boulders in the foreground. A rocky spire appears in the distance, above the golden forest and beneath the blue sky. This opening connects the movement of the nearby water to the mountains overlooking the valley, with the colours of the conifers forming a continuous transition along the banks.
The framing follows the torrent rather than an isolated peak. The movements of the water respond to the irregular lines of the banks, the warm colours of the vegetation contrast with the greys of the rock, and the soft light preserves all the depth of the undergrowth.
Upstream from Névache, in the Hautes-Alpes, the Clarée flows through meadows, forests, and hamlets before joining the Briançonnais region. The abundant presence of larches gives this valley a very distinct identity when their needles turn from green to yellow then to orange.
This photo print of the Clarée valley in autumn is printed on demand on matte Dibond aluminium. The finish brings out the nuances of the larches, the freshness of the torrent, and the natural textures of the Hautes-Alpes.
