The various sectors of Les Arcs are spread out over the slopes of Tarentaise, facing the still snow-capped peaks of Savoie. Forests and alpine pastures occupy the foreground, then the terrain gradually becomes more mineral and lighter towards the horizon. Les Arcs overlooks Bourg-Saint-Maurice and is part of a territory largely open towards the Vanoise massif. Its mountain architecture follows the slope, while the surrounding valleys and ridges give the landscape a very clear depth. The photograph intentionally balances built-up areas and open spaces.
