About this image

The limestone ridges of the Dent du Chat dominate the forests and rolling landscapes of the Avant-Pays savoyard. The plunging view starts from the rock and vegetation clinging to the slopes before opening onto a mosaic of fields, woods, and villages. The contrast in scale gives the image its full depth. Steps and a handrail accompany the passage along the ridge. Their regular lines sit within rock with far more irregular outlines. On the left, forest follows the slope; on the right, the fields of the countryside stretch into the distance. The photograph thus connects the narrow ridge path to the broad opening of the inhabited landscape.

The Dent du Chat belongs to the Épine mountain range, on the western edge of Lac du Bourget. Its cliffs and ridges form a major landmark between Mont du Chat, the Chambéry gorge, and the hills of the Avant-Pays savoyard, at the gateway to the Alps.

This photo print of the Dent du Chat ridges is printed on demand on matte Dibond aluminium. The matte finish highlights the limestone cliffs, forests, and the succession of reliefs of the Avant-Pays savoyard.
