Lac de Crop stretches through the heart of the Belledonne massif, in a high-altitude landscape of water, rocks and open relief. In this view, the small Croix de Crop stands out on the rise overlooking the lake, while the Chartreuse massif closes the horizon. Located at around 1,900 metres above sea level, Lac de Crop occupies a glacial basin on the heights above the Grésivaudan valley. From its shores, the view opens towards the valley and, in clear weather, towards the Chartreuse relief visible here in the background. The composition connects the horizontal surface of the water with the succession of mountain planes. Reflections on the lake echo the rocks along the shore, while the Croix de Crop provides a discreet landmark at the top of the central rise. The finish precisely reproduces the nuances of the water, mineral textures and depth of the landscape as far as the Chartreuse relief.
