About this image
The Pré de Madame Carle opens into a broad expanse at the head of the Vallouise valley. Torrents, rocky blocks and high-altitude vegetation fill the foreground, while mineral slopes and the high summits of the Écrins gradually close the landscape. Scattered trees and low vegetation punctuate the valley floor. Their small vertical forms echo the much higher snow-covered walls, while pale winding lines cross the open ground. The overcast but luminous sky keeps these differences in texture clearly visible: wood, stone and snow follow one another before the eye reaches the steepest slopes.
The composition highlights the contrast between the almost horizontal space of the meadow and the verticality of the surrounding walls. Water and stones guide the eye towards the head of the valley, in a natural palette of greens, greys and blues that preserves the understated character of the place.
Located at around 1,870 metres above sea level in the commune of Vallouise-Pelvoux, this site marks the entrance to Écrins National Park. It is the classic starting point for routes to the Glacier Blanc, Glacier Noir and several high-mountain refuges.
This photo print of the Pré de Madame Carle is printed to order on matte aluminium Dibond. The medium reproduces the depth of the valley, the texture of the torrents and the power of the reliefs of the Écrins massif.
