The red Gornergrat train moves through the snow facing the Matterhorn. Its colorful line crosses an almost entirely white and mineral landscape, while the peak's pyramid dominates the horizon above Zermatt. The rack railway connects Zermatt to Gornergrat, at over 3,000 meters above sea level. Its route provides access to a vast panorama of the Matterhorn, the Gorner Glacier, and many peaks over 4,000 meters. The train's presence adds movement and a human scale without diminishing the mountain's power. The red of the train guides the eye through the snowy slopes, then the lines of the landscape naturally lead towards the Matterhorn and the Valais ridges.
