The alpine peaks remain silhouetted in the lower part of the image, while the stars, luminous dust, and deep shades of the sky occupy almost the entire frame. Les Bans and Pointe de la Pilatte belong to the Écrins massif, in a glacial sector located between Valgaudemar and the Vénéon valley. This part of the massif is characterized by large walls, high-altitude glaciers, and valleys far from urban lights. The vertical composition gives full importance to the galactic column. Night blues and ridge grays create a gradual transition between earth and sky, while the long exposure reveals a density of stars invisible to the naked eye.
