Alpe d'Huez stretches across the slopes of the Grandes Rousses, facing the still snow-capped peaks of the Écrins. The neighbourhoods, slopes, and alpine pastures occupy the foreground, while the high peaks close the horizon with a more mineral presence. Paths and lifts cross the green alpine pastures around the densely built resort, seen from above. Behind it, a long white range introduces a different scale to the landscape. The small volumes of the neighbourhoods remain clearly placed on their balcony, while the lines of the ski area lead towards more distant mountain forms and snow.
