About this image
The Aiguille de Varan and the cliffs of the Fiz massif receive the last light of day. The limestone rock turns golden, while the gullies, forests, and more distant reliefs already shift into cold shades, creating a deep and contrasted scene. An almost black conifer forest fills the foreground. Above the long snowy range, an orange opening breaks through the dark sky and concentrates the evening colour. This small patch of light contrasts with the expanse of cool-toned masses, giving the scene a depth that can be traced from the trees to the lines of the high terrain.
The composition emphasizes the change in light rather than a uniform panorama. A warm clear spell reveals the textures of the wall, while the darker sky and successive planes reinforce the spectacular character of the sunset.
Overlooking Passy and the Arve valley, the Aiguille de Varan belongs to the Fiz mountain range in Haute-Savoie. This limestone massif, traversed by high plateaus and long rock bars, faces Mont-Blanc and constitutes one of the major landscapes of the Mont-Blanc region.
This photo print of the Aiguille de Varan and the Fiz massif is printed on demand on matte Dibond aluminium. The finish reproduces variations in light and limits reflections.
