About this image

On the slopes of Croix-Rousse, a blossoming tree accompanies the stairs of Rue Grognard. The stone steps, the railing, and the facades form a precise urban structure, softened by the light branches and the colours of spring. The ochre facades narrow the perspective around the staircase and the blossoming tree. Below, the streets and cars appear on a smaller scale, before the river and the distant towers. This succession makes the slope of the hill very tangible: the steps connect the detail of the neighbourhood to the urban panorama opening beyond the buildings.

The photograph relies on the contrast between the minerality of the staircase and the lightness of the blossoms. The greys of the stone and metal respond to the soft greens and brighter petals, while the downward perspective naturally draws the eye towards the Rhône and the towers of Lyon.

Rue Grognard belongs to the network of climbs and stairs in Lyon's 1st arrondissement. It connects several levels of the hill and reveals the particular character of the slopes, where narrow streets, old buildings, and pedestrian passages directly follow the terrain.

This photo print of the blossoming tree and the stairs of Rue Grognard is printed on demand on matte Dibond aluminium. The finish preserves the details of the stone and the softness of the spring colours.
