About this image

Above the Cirque de Gavarnie, the Brèche de Roland opens a broad notch in the limestone wall of the Pyrénées. Pale rock, ridges and high-altitude slopes structure a highly mineral composition in which the natural passage immediately becomes the vanishing point. The almost rectangular opening contrasts with the rock layers extending on either side. At the foot of the walls, a broad pale scree field is interrupted by patches of snow. These smoother surfaces make the strata and fractures of the wall stand out, allowing a precise reading of the passage and its immediate surroundings.

The framing shows the Brèche in its environment rather than as an isolated cut-out. Limestone strata, snow areas and changes in light give volume to the walls and place the passage within the scale of the Pyrenean landscape.

Located at 2,807 metres on the French-Spanish border, the Brèche is around 40 metres wide and one hundred metres high. It overlooks the Cirque de Gavarnie and can notably be reached via the Sarradets refuge area.

What should I do if my print arrives damaged or has a defect?

If the print has a printing defect, breakage or transport damage, whether the packaging is damaged or appears intact, contact AluArtMountains as soon as possible. Send your order number, a full photograph of the print and detailed photos of the defect. If the packaging is marked or damaged, also include photos of the inner and outer packaging and the shipping label. Once the claim is approved, a compliant replacement print will be produced at no extra cost, without limiting your statutory rights.
