Above the Cirque de Gavarnie, Roland's Breach opens a wide gap in the limestone wall of the Pyrenees. The light rock, ridges, and high-altitude slopes create a very mineral composition, where the natural passage immediately becomes the vanishing point. Located at 2,807 meters on the French-Spanish border, the Breach measures approximately 40 meters wide and a hundred meters high. It overlooks the Cirque de Gavarnie and can be reached, notably, from the Sarradets refuge area. The framing shows the Breach within its environment rather than as a simple isolated cut. The limestone strata, snow patches, and variations in light give volume to the walls and place the passage within the vastness of the Pyrenean landscape.
