A canyon cuts into the slopes of the Landmannalaugar rhyolite, revealing several layers of colored rock. The irregular walls, darker flows, and moss-covered areas create immediate depth in this volcanic landscape of the Highlands. The Fjallabak Nature Reserve is located within the Torfajökull system, a vast active region where rhyolite, obsidian, lava fields, rivers, and geothermal phenomena coexist. Erosion by water and ancient glaciers has carved numerous ravines and gullies here. The framing follows the line of the canyon, allowing its walls to guide the eye into the heart of the massif. Ochres, greens, and grays echo each other, while deeper shadows accentuate differences in level without transforming the relief into an abstract pattern.
