About this image

The Cirque de Gavarnie forms a vast amphitheatre of superimposed cliffs crossed by the white line of its great waterfall. Vegetated terraces in the foreground give scale to the walls and show the transition between meadows, rock and high summits. In the lower centre of the frame, the waterfall stands out like a white thread against a dark wall. Around it, patches of snow occupy ledges and underline breaks between the levels of the cirque. The fineness of the waterfall contrasts with the breadth of the stratified walls, providing a vertical landmark among these great horizontal lines.

The photograph reproduces a complete landscape rather than a single wall. Sedimentary strata, terraces, couloirs and vegetation give the relief exceptional depth, while the waterfall visually connects the top of the cliffs with the bottom of the cirque.

Located in the municipality of Gavarnie-Gèdre in the Hautes-Pyrénées, the cirque belongs to the Pyrénées National Park and the Pyrénées–Mont-Perdu World Heritage site. Its waterfall reaches 422 metres, making it the highest in mainland France.

What should I do if my print arrives damaged or has a defect?

If the print has a printing defect, breakage or transport damage, whether the packaging is damaged or appears intact, contact AluArtMountains as soon as possible. Send your order number, a full photograph of the print and detailed photos of the defect. If the packaging is marked or damaged, also include photos of the inner and outer packaging and the shipping label. Once the claim is approved, a compliant replacement print will be produced at no extra cost, without limiting your statutory rights.
