About this image

Mont-Blanc emerges above a compact sea of clouds at sunset. Summits and glacial areas remain clear in the light while the valley disappears beneath a continuous white layer, turning the relief into suspended islands. A lower range stands in front of the great white massif beneath a very bright sun. The sea of clouds fills the lower space and separates these reliefs from the valley. The panorama gains its depth through this superposition: nearby ridges form a first boundary, then glacial surfaces dominate farther away, with the luminous disc acting as a landmark above the whole.

Pink and golden evening tones concentrate on the snow, while shadows take on bluish nuances. This separation between the warmth of the summits and the uniform softness of the clouds reinforces the sense of altitude and the isolation of the massif in the sky.

The highest point in the Alps, Mont-Blanc dominates the Chamonix valley and the entire massif bearing its name. Seas of clouds appear during atmospheric inversions, when cold, humid air remains trapped in the valleys while the summits stay above the cloud cover.

Printed to order on matte aluminium Dibond, this photo print of Mont-Blanc above a sea of clouds reproduces a spectacular aerial landscape built around light, depth and Alpine atmosphere.
