The Dômes de Miage align their snow-covered ridges and glacial slopes in a composition dominated by the pure lines of the high mountains. Snow follows the curves of the relief while cornices and breaks in slope give rhythm to the landscape. Small figures are moving along the very narrow ridge of the pyramidal summit. Their scale immediately conveys the breadth of the snow-covered slope. Blue shadows emphasize the cornice and the break between faces, while the line of silhouettes follows the white ridge: the mountaineers provide a concrete measure for the geometry of the snow.

The photograph favours the continuity of the ridge and the finesse of the textures rather than a crowded panorama. Snow whites, rock greys and bluish shadows create a clear image in which the scale of the relief gradually becomes apparent.

Located in the Mont-Blanc massif above Val Montjoie, the Dômes de Miage rise to 3,673 metres. They are closely linked to the Contamines-Montjoie area and the Conscrits refuge, a starting point for several mountaineering routes.
