About this image

On Place des Terreaux, the Bartholdi fountain unfurls its chariot and four horses in a powerful movement. The water, the dark patina of the metal, and the light facades create an urban scene immediately identifiable at the heart of Lyon. The turquoise water forms an area of colour at the foot of the horses and sculpted figures. Behind them, tall buildings frame the monument and establish its scale within the square. The photograph thus combines the sculpture’s abundant detail with broader surfaces — basin and facades — that allow its movement to stand out clearly.

The framing highlights the energy of the horses and the sculpted details without completely isolating the artwork from its surroundings. The water jets provide movement, while the stone of the square and the surrounding buildings place the sculpture back into the Lyonnaise landscape.

The fountain is located between the City Hall and the Museum of Fine Arts. Designed by Auguste Bartholdi and installed in Lyon at the end of the 19th century, it now occupies one of the main heritage spaces of the Presqu’île.

What should I do if my print arrives damaged or has a defect?

If the packaging is marked or damaged, also include photos of the inner and outer packaging and the shipping label. Once the claim is approved, a compliant replacement print will be produced at no extra cost, without limiting your statutory rights.
