About this image

The Hohneck overlooks the granite cliffs of the Martinswand, in one of the steepest areas of the High Vosges. The large rock faces contrast with the high stubble and the more rounded shapes that characterize the rest of the massif. The summit is located on the ridge line between Alsace and Lorraine. Nearby, the Martinswand forms a significant mineral bar above the Munster valley and gives the landscape an almost alpine appearance. The photograph precisely highlights this opposition. The vertical lines of the cliff add tension, while the high-altitude meadows and ridges open up the panorama.
