About this image

Lac Blanc partially disappears under an autumn fog that engulfs the surrounding forests and hills. The dark water, russet foliage, and grey masses of mist create a landscape reduced to a few deeply coloured planes. Yellow trees occupy the foreground of the high-angle view. Below them, the grey-blue water remains visible through the thick fog, edged by forest. The nearby foliage retains more colour and detail than the distant shores, giving the image depth even as the lake’s edges are partly absorbed by the mist.

The mist softens the details of the shores and surrounding terrain. Shapes gradually become less precise, reflections blend with the foliage, and the diffused light enhances the ochre, brown, and grey tones without creating harsh contrasts.

The scene is located in Orbey, in the Alsatian Vosges and Haut-Rhin. The wooded slopes normally surround the lake, but the fog blurs the most distant parts and completely transforms the perception of the cirque.

This photo print of Lac Blanc in the autumn fog is printed on demand on matte aluminium Dibond. The finish preserves the gradients of the mist and the deep richness of the forest colours and dark water.
