From the heights of the Hohneck, Lake Schiessrothried appears at the bottom of a cirque nestled between forest, rocks, and high stubble fields. The bird's-eye view reveals the shape of the body of water and the succession of slopes descending towards the Munster Valley. The lake is located at an altitude of 930 meters, between the Spitzkoepfe and the foot of the Hohneck. It covers approximately 5.6 hectares in the Vosges massif and occupies a valley shaped by ancient glaciers, beneath the peak which reaches 1,363 meters. The framing gives the lake a measured place to preserve the grandeur of the surrounding relief. The greens of the forest, the rocky grays, and the blues of the water overlap in layers, while the curves of the cirque naturally guide the eye.
