The Marmolada rises above the alpine meadows through a succession of pale walls. Two great rocky volumes dominate the valleys and intermediate ridges; a visible white band of snow underlines the crest. In the lower planes, green alpine meadows and paths give scale to this broad mineral presence beneath a cloud-filled sky.

The materials remain distinct: green grass, white snow and grey limestone. High-altitude light emphasizes the volumes while preserving the readability of layers and breaks in the relief. Gentle meadow slopes lead to steeper walls and then to the pale band edging the top of the mountain. This progression gives depth to a composition dominated by the mass of the summit.

With Punta Penìa at 3,343 metres, Marmolada is the highest point of the Dolomites. On its northern side, the Marmolada glacier descends toward the Lake Fedaia area; it remains the largest glacier in this Italian mountain region. These landmarks place the great walls within an ensemble in which altitude, rock and ice create very different landscapes depending on the slope.
