About this image

From Place Bellevue, the rooftops of Lyon stretch towards the Part-Dieu skyline. The Rhône quays and the districts on the left bank occupy the foreground, while the large contemporary towers stand out on the horizon. A bench, passers-by and a lamp post occupy the viewpoint in the foreground. Facades and rooftops then descend towards the Rhône, before the towers of Part-Dieu. These nearby elements give the panorama a familiar point of entry: the walking area remains present in front of the city, whose changes of scale can be followed all the way to the tall verticals in the distance.

The photograph is based on the succession of urban scales. The dense rooftops provide substance to the foreground, the more distant districts gradually become less detailed, and the towers add some strong verticals to an essentially horizontal panorama.

This viewpoint is located on the slopes of Croix-Rousse, in the 1st arrondissement. Its elevated position offers a very broad view of the city, from the historic districts to the Part-Dieu business center, recognizable notably by the silhouette of the Part-Dieu tower, nicknamed "the Pencil."

This photo print of Place Bellevue and the towers of Lyon is made to order on matte Dibond aluminium. The medium preserves the delicacy of the rooftops and the depth of the Croix-Rousse panorama.
