About this image

The high-altitude pastures of the Glières plateau unfold between forests, chalets, and the limestone formations of the Bornes massif. The gentle curves of the meadows occupy the foreground, then the landscape gradually becomes more wooded and more mineral as it approaches the mountains. A winding road connects the farms amid yellow and green alpine pastures. Forests border the plateau on either side, before the rocky mountains in the distance. This arrangement makes the pastoral landscape easy to read, with the buildings providing scale and the curve of the road linking the broad grassy spaces.

The framing follows the natural lines of the pastures before meeting the ridges. The greens, the dark masses of the forest, and the clear light provide a very open reading of the site, without reducing Glières to a mere postcard image.

The plateau is located in Haute-Savoie, above Thorens-Glières and Petit-Bornand. This high-altitude territory is inextricably linked to the history of the Resistance, and the photograph shows its pastoral character and its setting within the massif.

This photographic print of the Glières plateau in the Bornes massif is printed on demand on matte Dibond aluminium. The medium reproduces the depth of the alpine pastures and the textures of the Haute-Savoie landscape.
