About this image

The Couvercle mountain hut appears on its rocky spur above the Talèfre glacier, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Mont-Blanc massif. The building offers a discreet human landmark amidst the snow, moraines, and granite needles. The small orange building stands out at the foot of the golden cliffs. Below it, the snow-covered basin occupies a much larger area before another succession of ridges. The colour of the building thus provides a nearby reference point in a landscape dominated by great rock masses, making its position against the rock clearly legible.

The composition combines the architecture of the hut, the volumes of the glacier, and the verticality of the peaks. The warm nuances of the granite echo the whites of the snow, while the succession of planes gives remarkable depth to this isolated landscape.

Located at approximately 2,680 metres of altitude in the commune of Chamonix, the hut is a major starting point for mountaineering. The Aiguille du Moine, the Nonne, the Évêque, les Droites, and les Courtes dominate this high-mountain sector around the Talèfre basin.

Once the claim is approved, a compliant replacement print will be produced at no extra cost, without limiting your statutory rights.
