From Les Contamines-Montjoie, the Milky Way unfolds above the Mont-Blanc massif in a densely star-filled sky. The Alpine relief forms a dark line on the horizon, present enough to anchor the night scene without drawing attention away from the galactic arc. The starry arc crosses the entire sky above a dark mountain range still marked by a few snow-covered areas. An orange glow is concentrated low on the left, while pinkish veils nuance the night. These variations of colour give the sky greater depth and accompany its broad curve without overtaking the galactic band.

The long exposure reveals nuances barely perceptible to the eye: deep blues, luminous dust and thousands of stars spread above the mountain silhouettes. The composition gives the sky a large share of the frame, while the relief retains a discreet and stable presence in the lower part of the image.

Les Contamines lies in the heart of Val Montjoie in Haute-Savoie, at the foot of the Mont-Blanc massif. This high-mountain territory combines villages, forests, alpine meadows and glacial summits, with broad views of the surrounding ridges when the sky is clear.
