The village of Grindelwald lights up in the blue hour under the imposing mass of the Eiger. Chalets and snowy slopes form a inhabited foreground, while the rocky face rises almost directly behind the valley in the Bernese Alps. The Eiger rises to 3,967 meters above Grindelwald. With the Mönch and the Jungfrau, it forms one of the best-known ensembles in the Bernese Oberland. Its north face dominates the village and gives this landscape an immediately perceptible verticality. The evening light combines the cool tones of snow and sky with the warmer lights of the houses. The buildings give scale to the mountain without interrupting the view of its walls, corridors, and slopes that descend towards the valley.
