Aiguille du Midi and its observatory overlook Chamonix in the warm light of the setting sun. The snow-covered ridges are tinged with gold and pink, while the faces already in shadow retain cooler hues that enhance the relief. At an altitude of 3,842 meters, Aiguille du Midi stands at the heart of the Mont Blanc massif. Its cable car connects the center of Chamonix to the gates of the high mountains and a panorama covering the French, Swiss, and Italian Alps. The presence of the observatory and summit facilities gives a human scale to the mountain. However, the composition retains all the mineral power of the summit: the evening light reveals volumes, highlights couloirs, and outlines the silhouette against the sky.
