About this image
At the centre of Place des Jacobins, the monumental fountain stands out in front of the elegant façades of the Presqu’île. Pale stone, sculptures and water organise the composition, while the curved buildings harmoniously close the space around the square. Passers-by occupy the square beneath a blue sky and clear light. Their scale emphasizes the height of the old façades around the central fountain. Architecture remains the main subject, but these figures give the space a lively measure: the eye can move from the sculptures to the windows, then back to street level and the everyday life of the square.
The photograph favours a clear reading of the heritage rather than an overly busy scene. Ornamentation remains precise, the façades retain their stone nuances and natural light brings out the volumes without hardening the contrasts.
Located in Lyon’s 2nd arrondissement, Place des Jacobins belongs to the urban fabric linking Bellecour, Cordeliers and the main shopping streets of the centre. Its fountain and harmonious architecture make it one of the most immediately recognisable landmarks of the Presqu’île.
This photo print of Place des Jacobins in Lyon is made to order on matte aluminium Dibond. The rendering preserves the details of the fountain, the architectural balance of the square and the natural warmth of Lyon’s façades.
