Lac Besson stretches between the alpine pastures and the peaks of the Grandes Rousses, above Alpe d'Huez. Its calm waters, the grass, and the green slopes give the photograph a summer face of the Oisans, far from the exclusively winter image of the resort. Aquatic plants and a grassy promontory interrupt the rippled surface of the lake. Rocks and shrubs line the shores, in front of a jagged range where a few snow patches remain. The water is therefore not a uniform surface: its small textures and the details along the banks draw the eye close before the more mineral mountain forms in the distance.

The framing allows for a real sense of space around the water. The irregular banks, the variations of green, and the lines of the mountains complement each other without overloading the scene, while the surface of the lake brings a point of calm to the center of the landscape.

This high-altitude lake belongs to a group of bodies of water accessible from the heights of Alpe d'Huez, in Isère. The surrounding paths and alpine pastures open up views of the Grandes Rousses and several major peaks of the Oisans.
