About this image
Under the snow, Lake Montriond retains a large surface of dark water, reflecting the whitened forests and the Chablais mountains. The clear shore draws a neat curve around the lake, while snow-laden trees frame the panorama. The contrast between the water and the winter landscape gives the image a very graphic depth. Part of the lake disappears beneath a white surface, while the open water in the foreground retains its reflection. A small hut stands out on the shore. This built detail helps convey the width of the basin between snowy trees and the hills in the distance. Winter is as visible in this boundary across the lake as in the forest canopy.
The lake is located at an altitude of 1,072 meters in the Aulps Valley, in the municipality of Montriond, near Morzine. Nestled between wooded slopes and cliffs, it has an elongated shape and a more enclosed character than the large alpine lakes open to high peaks.
This photo print of Lake Montriond under the snow is printed on demand on matte Dibond aluminium. The matte finish limits reflections and preserves the cool nuances of the water, forests, and Chablais mountains.
