Lake Goléon stretches out facing the Meije, whose walls and glaciers dominate the horizon. The calm water reflects part of the massif, while the rocky shores and high-altitude pastures frame the view without breaking the openness of the landscape. Located above La Grave, in the Hautes-Alpes, the lake is situated at an altitude of over 2,400 meters. It belongs to the Goléon valley, a natural balcony facing the Meije, a major peak in the Écrins culminating at nearly 4,000 meters. The composition combines the horizontal plane of the lake with the verticality of the high peaks. The blues of the water and sky respond to the grays of the rock, while variations in light on the glaciers create a particularly legible depth.
