From the summit of Puy de Sancy, the volcanic ridges, glacial valleys, and plateaus of Auvergne unfold for tens of kilometers. The eye follows the edges of the massif before meeting softer and progressively more distant landscapes. Reaching 1,885 meters, Puy de Sancy is the highest point of the Massif Central and the Monts Dore. On a clear day, its panorama can extend towards the Chaîne des Puys, the Cézallier, the Monts du Cantal, and the Forez mountains. The photograph primarily captures the vastness of the viewpoint. The ridges structure the foreground, the valleys show the work of glacial erosion, and atmospheric perspective softens the lines as they recede.
