The Agnel refuge stands isolated between broad russet grasslands and snowy areas, facing the silhouette of the Pain de Sucre. The building provides a sense of scale and a discreet human presence, while partially snow-covered slopes and darker mountain forms close off the landscape. The low refuge sits on the right, amid the broad russet grasslands. The snow-dusted pyramid and the neighbouring rocky terrain stand out beneath a grey sky. Grassy areas remain clearly visible around the building, giving the composition a mixed palette of exposed ground and snow rather than an entirely white basin.
The composition plays on the opposition between the simple architecture of the refuge and the immensity of the mountain. The bluish shadows give volume to the snow, the ridge lines remain sharp, and the Pain de Sucre maintains a strong presence without overpowering the building.
Located at approximately 2,580 metres of altitude in the commune of Molines-en-Queyras, the refuge is situated below the Agnel pass, in the immediate vicinity of the Italian border. It is an important stop on hiking and skiing routes in this sector of the Hautes-Alpes.
This scene is offered as a photo print of the Agnel refuge facing the snow-covered Pain de Sucre, printed on demand on matte Dibond aluminium. The finish captures the sobriety of the whites and the precision of the winter relief.
