Mount Pelvoux and its glaciers catch the last light of day in a wide-open panorama of the Ecrins massif. The golden light highlights the ridges, glacial slopes, and valleys, while the areas already in shadow enhance the high mountain relief. Mount Pelvoux culminates at 3,946 meters above Vallouise-Pelvoux, in the Hautes-Alpes. Its complex silhouette, long considered the highest in the massif before the first precise measurements of the Barre des Écrins, dominates the Ailefroide and Pré de Madame Carle valleys. The framing allows the different layers of the landscape to breathe: dark rock, snow, ice, and warm sky follow one another without clutter. The orange hues of the sunset blend with the bluish-greys of the glaciers, giving the image a calm depth and a very mineral presence.
