Viewed from above, the pyramid of the Matterhorn stands out against a network of ridges and valleys. The black and white treatment transforms the sunset light into a succession of values, where the snowy ridges remain bright and the rocky faces sink into shadow. The 4,478-meter summit belongs to the Pennine Alps and is located on the Italian-Swiss border. The aerial angle provides a better grasp of the height of its walls and its position amidst the reliefs dominating Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia.
