About this image

The light of a Cervin sunset is rendered here in black and white. Illuminated ridges stand out from darker slopes; summit snow and gneiss strata give the pyramid a graphic reading. Above the relief, parallel diagonal trails occupy the sky and extend its lines.

This trail effect comes from the treatment of the sky associated with the sunset photograph. It accompanies the geometry of the summit, while monochrome accentuates differences in material without adding harshness. Intermediate greys preserve the volumes and shadows deepen the couloirs: black and white therefore retains a depth that goes beyond the simple opposition of light and dark.

At 4,478 metres, the Cervin dominates Zermatt in the Alpes valaisannes, on the border between Switzerland and Italy. Cervin is its German name, used in Zermatt. Its relative isolation and the clarity of its four faces explain the strength of its silhouette; stripped of colour, it remains immediately recognisable. Sunset, the modelling of the gneiss and the treated sky give this view a precise identity among photographs of the summit.

What should I do if my print arrives damaged or has a defect?

Send your order number, a full photograph of the print and detailed photos of the defect. If the packaging is marked or damaged, also include photos of the inner and outer packaging and the shipping label. Once the claim is approved, a compliant replacement print will be produced at no extra cost, without limiting your statutory rights.
