Photo print of Rochebrune peak at sunset in the Queyras massif

The final light catches the ridges of Pic de Rochebrune and reveals the structure of its rocky slopes. Areas still illuminated take on golden and copper tones, while couloirs and slopes already in shadow retain cooler shades. Pale golden walls fill the foreground in front of a darker pyramid and several layers of mountains. The cloud-filled sky accompanies this succession without erasing the contrast between the relief. Light is first read on nearby surfaces before letting distant profiles stand out through their tonal values, giving the photograph depth built from differences in illumination.

The photograph favours ridge lines and the modelling of light rather than a crowded panorama. The evening sky accompanies the relief without hiding it, and the gradual transition between planes gives the image a restrained depth faithful to the atmosphere of the high mountains.

This major summit of the Queyras overlooks the Col d’Izoard area and neighbouring valleys of the Hautes-Alpes. Its slender silhouette, formed by clearly readable mineral strata, is a natural landmark between the Briançonnais and the high relief of the Queyras Regional Natural Park.

This photo print of Pic de Rochebrune at sunset, photographed by Pierre Thiaville, is printed to order on matte aluminium Dibond. The finish reproduces rock detail and the delicate nuances of the final light.
