Grand Veymont dominates the Hauts-Plateaux du Vercors with its long limestone silhouette. Slopes, cliffs and ridge lines structure an open composition in which the summit stands out without hiding the extent of the surrounding plateau. The great inclined rock blade has a pale steep face and a partly grassy back. On the right, a hiker gives the relief an immediate sense of scale in front of more distant forested mountains. This presence brings the view closer to the terrain being crossed: the eye follows the slopes to the summit ridge before opening onto the succession of planes beyond the Vercors.

The photograph favours a clear reading of the relief: limestone layers, high-altitude grassland and shadows in the combes create several levels of depth. The palette remains natural, between mineral greys, muted greens and sky blues.

Rising to 2,341 metres, it is the highest point of the massif in Isère. Grand Veymont separates the Trièves to the east from the Hauts-Plateaux nature reserve, a vast protected area accessible only on foot.
