In winter, the Pierra Menta stands majestically above the snowy valleys while the Presset refuge appears nestled in the landscape. The building, almost minuscule compared to the monolith, immediately conveys the sense of space and isolation characteristic of this sector of the Beaufortain. The Presset refuge is located at approximately 2,514 meters altitude, on the shore of the lake of the same name. It is surrounded by the Pierra Menta, the Aiguille de la Nova, and the Pointe de Presset, and is a recognized stop on hiking, mountaineering, and ski touring routes. The composition is distinguished by its very graphic lines: slopes smoothed by snow, ridges sculpted by the wind, and a rocky peak standing in the background. The sober tones reinforce the mineral dimension and the sensation of silence without erasing the details of the refuge.
