About this image
From Lac Lérié, your gaze sweeps across the alpine pastures of the Emparis plateau before reaching the glaciers and high peaks of La Meije. The water occupies a calm foreground, while the snow-covered and mineral reliefs give the scene its full depth. The small dark lake lies on the right and reflects its nearby shore. Beyond the alpine pastures and rocks, several sheets of ice crown the great wall; a sharp peak stands out on the left and the moon appears in the blue sky. These successive landmarks connect the details of the plateau with the scale of the high faces opposite.
This photograph is not solely based on reflection: the banks, vegetation, and successive planes also structure the panorama. The greens and browns of the plateau contrast with the greys of the rock and the whites of the glacier, creating a luminous composition that is faithful to the high mountains.
The Emparis plateau overlooks La Grave and the Romanche valley, in the Hautes-Alpes. Its balcony position offers an unobstructed view of the north face of La Meije and the landscapes of Oisans, between high-altitude meadows, small lakes, and large glacial walls.
This photo print of the glacier of La Meije from Lac Lérié is printed on demand on matte Dibond aluminium. The rendition preserves the details of the plateau and the finesse of the glacial reliefs.
